Direct Strike Protection

A lighting protection system provides a means by which this discharge may enter or leave earth without passing through and damaging non-conducting parts of a structure, such as those made of wood, brick, tile or concrete. A lightning protection system does not prevent lightning from striking – it provides a means for controlling it and preventing damage by providing a low resistance path for the discharge of lightning energy.

There are five models in the PREVECTRON 2 range and each model is available in two different versions.

Copper version: copper central pickup rod and electrodes, black coated stainless steel housing.

This version has particularly good conductive characteristics.

Stainless steel version: Stainless steel central pickup rod, electrodes and housing.

This version is particularly suited to corrosive environments.

Each of the five air terminal models has different performance specifications corresponding to different protection radii.

  • Large choice of protection radii
  • Improved maximum effectiveness
  • Total autonomy
  • Activates itself only when there is a risk of lightning
  • Permanent, single drop from the tip of the air terminal down to the earth
  • Reliability and sturdiness tested in both a high voltage laboratory by C.N.R.S (French National Scientific Research Centre) and in real-life lightning conditions by the C.E.A (French Atomic Energy Commission)
  • This scientific research, carried out on the PREVECTRON has enabled us to incorporate many new developments into the PREVECTRON 2.

The strapping system consists of aerial termination being finials (Lightning Rods) connected by a horizontal tape.

Down conductors are placed every 30 meters minimum which will terminate into its own earth pits which is part of the earth termination network.

The most common conductor is 25x3mm cooper tape, however galvanised steel and stainless steel is often used. This system is open to many configuration and variations in design and fully complies with the standard as 1768-1991. This method while very economical on materials is expensive on labour.
