FAQ
What is a UPS?
UPS is an acronym for Uninterruptible Power Supply. The primary purpose is protection against Power Failures and Black Out.
What type of UPS Systems are there?
There are three types of UPS systems, which are designed for different applications.
- Standby / Offline UPS - This is usually used in a Home office environment, designed to provide power for small amounts of time, great for allowing people to save and back up work in case of power failure.
- Line Interactive UPS - Used more in a corporate environment, these UPS's regulate and maintain a regular power supply, eliminating any damage from power fluctuations.
- Double Conversion UPS - Used commonly in industrial areas, these UPS's ensure that constant power loads are delivered with no break in supply and with multiple backup measures in place.
When should I change my UPS Batteries and how do I maintain my UPS?
Batteries are the most critical component in the reliability of any UPS, but they face three fundamental challenges.
- All batteries need charging, but extended charging significantly shortens battery life.
- Batteries take time to recharge - users can't wait.
- All batteries will eventually fail.
Powerware's exclusive, patented advanced battery management (ABM™) technology solves these UPS battery problems.
Why do I need surge protection if I have a UPS System?
A surge is a transient electrical fluctuation that happens in a fraction of a second and can cause serious damage to electronic and electro mechanical equipment.
Surges can be caused by lightning strikes and local power utility company 'spikes' which can enter your business or home through the electrical system, for example cable television or telephone wiring, and attack any electrical equipment attached to them.
Why do I need Surge Protection?
What power problems do I have?
Electrical equipment in our domestic and work environments are at risk from power related problems.
The damage caused by power problems to computers, networks and othersensitive equipment can vary from a small disruption to complete equipmentfailure and destruction. Different products have been developed to deal with the specific power problems.
